APCS

Automatic Passenger Counting System (APCS)

AI-powered passenger counting using bus cameras

Cameras installed inside buses capture images at fixed intervals. These are transmitted to a backend server where Chartr's AI pipeline processes them — vision models and LLM-based analysis extract passenger counts and map them to trips, routes, and time windows. Hardware stays lightweight; intelligence is centralised.

Key Features

  • AI + image processing — no expensive onboard hardware
  • Per-trip passenger count mapped to routes and stops
  • Gender and category segmentation for government schemes
  • Fare leakage detection from ridership vs ticket data
  • Identify crowded route segments and peak times
  • Optimise schedules using real demand data
  • Server-side model updates — no bus hardware changes needed
