APCS
Automatic Passenger Counting System (APCS)
AI-powered passenger counting using bus cameras
Cameras installed inside buses capture images at fixed intervals. These are transmitted to a backend server where Chartr's AI pipeline processes them — vision models and LLM-based analysis extract passenger counts and map them to trips, routes, and time windows. Hardware stays lightweight; intelligence is centralised.
Key Features
- ✓AI + image processing — no expensive onboard hardware
- ✓Per-trip passenger count mapped to routes and stops
- ✓Gender and category segmentation for government schemes
- ✓Fare leakage detection from ridership vs ticket data
- ✓Identify crowded route segments and peak times
- ✓Optimise schedules using real demand data
- ✓Server-side model updates — no bus hardware changes needed
Deployment Timeline
• Setup: 2–3 weeks
• Pilot: 2–3 weeks
• Full Rollout: 3–4 weeks
